Rodney Lee Smith, age 43 of Leonhardt Rd. died Saturday, April 16, 2016. He was born on November 5, 1972 in Gaston County. Rodney was a member of Anthony Grove Baptist Church and formerly employed by Walmart Distribution Center in Shelby. He was a diehard Washington Redskins Fan. His main hobby was anything involving cars. He loved Nascar, fast cars, and antique cars. He was also a member of the traditional New Year Shooters. He was most passionate about his family. He had the most contagious personality, his smile could light up a room, and he was known for giving the greatest hugs ever.
Survivors include his mother, Betty Lackey Deason of Gastonia; wife, Sheree Freeman Smith of LaFollette, TN; son, Rodney Lee Smith II of Lincolnton; daughters, Mikayla Smith of LaFollette, TN and Keylee Smith of Lincolnton; niece, Brooke Martin and husband, Chris of Gastonia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dean and Lona Freeman of Kings Mountain; sister-in-law, Trish Trogdon and husband, Todd of Asheboro; "brothers," Chris Huntsinger of Gastonia and Greg Collins of Salisbury; and his best buddy, Rascal. He was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Morrison.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Anthony Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Dennis Bean officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services.
