Ronald Eugene Boyd
Ronald Eugene Boyd, age 75 of Cherryville, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas. He was born December 16, 1942 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Johnie Lester and Mildred Dalton Boyd. Ronnie worked 28 years at Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation, then joined Fleetnet America, where he retired in 2004, due to health issues. He was a 1961 graduate of Cherryville High School. He served in the United States Air Force as an Inventory Management Specialist and later obtained degrees from Queens College and Cleveland Community College. Ronnie was a quiet and compassionate man. Before his health declined, he attended First Baptist Church of Cherryville, enjoyed fishing and hunting, building electronics and spending quality time with family. He was a member of the Cleveland County Rose Society and enjoyed working in his rose garden. A special thank you to the staff of Carolina Care, especially Dr. Maria Weisenhorn, the staff of Caromont Regional Medical Center, Angela King, Juano and Sheila of Gaston Hospice and his caregiver, Lisa McGowen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Joe Turner Boyd and Johnie Lester Boyd, Jr.; sisters, Patricia Boyd Parker and Margaret Boyd Vaughn.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Judi Homesley Boyd; sisters, Elaine Hallman (Garland) of Rutherfordton, Libby Mervin of Myrtle Beach and Nancy Costner of Cherryville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob Homesley, Jim and Louise Homesley, Gary and Marcia Homesley, Robbie and Gary Arvidson and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 18th at 10:00 AM at the Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Randy Heavner officiating. Visitation will follow at the home from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
