Ronald “Ronnie” Marcus Gantt

Ronald “Ronnie” Marcus Gantt, 80, of Shelby, NC passed away on Sunday, January 19th at Kings Mountain Hospice House.  He was born on November 28, 1933 to the late Marcus S. Gantt and Maude Dixon Gantt.  Ronnie graduated from Shelby High School and served 4 years in the United States Navy.  He owned and operated a Nationwide Insurance Agency for 37 years.  He belonged to Aldersgate Methodist Church where he faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher, Stephen Minister and was an assistant Boy Scout Leader.  For 50 years he was a member of Masonic Lodge #202 AF & AM and was a Past Master.  He belonged to the Charlotte Scottish Rite and the Oasis Shrine Temple.  Ronnie loved boating and being on the lake with family and friends.  For years, traveling with his wife Jerry and playing tennis with friends were his passion.  He was a devoted husband and a loving father and he cherished being “Poppy” to his grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Jerry Goforth Gantt, and siblings, H. Rebecca Gantt, Derrell Gantt, Elizabeth “Lib” G. Scruggs, Sarah G. Blanton and William “Bill” Gantt.

 

Ronald is survived by three children and their spouses, Rhonda Moore (Jack) of Shelby, NC, Marc Gantt (Darlene) of Cherryville, NC and Becky Keesler (Dru) of Pawleys Island, SC; six grandchildren, Meghan K. Budde (Anthony) of Dyersburg, TN, J. Lewis Moore of Charleston, SC, Lindsey Moore Raynor (Wilson) of Greenville, NC, Lacy Keesler (fiancé Robert Hoffman) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Kendra Barger (Nelson) of Vale, NC, Bobby Helms (Christi) of Orangeburg, FL; and five great grandchildren, Caitlin and Abigail Barger, Aiden and Lillian Budde and Cameron Helms.  He is also survived by sisters in law Linda Estridge of Bethune, SC and Peggy Gantt of Shelby, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation:  The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

 

Memorial Service:  A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 22nd at 2:00pm

 

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd, Shelby NC 28152.
