Rosa Lee Wood Smith

Mrs. Rosa Lee Wood Smith, 90, of 412 Murdock Circle Shelby, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby, NC.  She was born on May 1, 1923 in Union County, SC to the late Eliphus and Bessie Goode Wood.

Rosa was a homemaker of the highest degree who loved sewing, gardening, cooking and preserving food which was distributed throughout the community. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rosa accepted Christ at an early age and joined Jerusalem C.F. Church of God where she worked as Missionary President, Sunday School Teacher and Vice-President of CYPU.  She also served faithfully at New Life C.F. Church of God as mother and Sunday School Teacher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses Smith, Sr.; a daughter, Eloise Smith Mintz (Joe Dean Mintz); a son, Ulysses Smith, Jr. (Etta Thompson Smith); two brothers, J.D. Wood and Jamie Wood; three sisters, Louvenia McGill, Blondell Robinson and Earnestine Epps; a granddaughter, Sonya Thompson Byers and a great-grandson, Frederick Hartgrove, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are four daughters, Judy S. Thompson (Richard), Sandra Faye Ponder (Eddie) and Elder Joyce Smith all of Shelby and Lisa S. Jordan of Charlotte, NC; three sons, James Alfred Smith (Margie) of Gastonia, NC and Victor L. Smith and Rev. Dr. Bruce E. Smith (Andrena) both of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Falonda Smith of Gaffney, SC; three grandchildren who were reared in the home, Tracy Mintz (Nicole) of Shelby and Dana Shade (Keith) and Sean Mintz (Sandy) both of Charlotte; ____ additional grandchildren; _____ great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice McCluney of Shelby, Etta Mae Smith of Asheville, NC and Bessie Hartgrove of Shelby; one brother, Howard Wood (Joyce) of Asheville; two additional sisters-in-law, Myrtle Ellis and Earline Baxter both of Shelby; a brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Smith (Mae Lois) of Lincolnton, NC; special friends, Monique Meeks and Cindy Webber both of Shelby and______ Moore of CA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Malcolm Brown Auditorium with Bishop L. Randolph Borders officiating.  Burial will take place at Cleveland Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM on Saturday and at other times at her home.  Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloes.net.  Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
