Rose Elaine McCoin Brooks, 83, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at home.  Born in Mitchell, South Dakota she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Ruth Ann Dickinson McCoin.  Elaine was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edgar Brooks, Jr. and a sister Mary Durst.  Elaine was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was a past Sunday School teacher.  She served her country honorably as a Dental Lab Technician with the U.S. Army Medical Corps.  Elaine was also a member of the Shelby Eastern Star – Chapter 110 and Amaranth – Chapter 21 in Spindale. 

Elaine is survived by her four children, Thomas G. Brooks and wife Teresa, Randy S. Brooks and wife Laurie, James L. Brooks and wife Susan, Barbara J. Gantt and husband Louis; grandchildren, Heather and Matt Clucas, Scott and Courtney Brooks, Tommy and Danah Brooks, John and Kimberly Brooks, Amanda and Ronnie Locklear, Brenda Brooks; thirteen great grandchildren; brothers, Donald McCoin and wife Esther and John McCoin, Jr and wife Arlene.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.  Rev. Ronell Owensby will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00pm prior to the service in the church sanctuary.  Burial will follow the service in Cleveland Memorial Park with Military Honors.  At other times the family will be at the home.
