    Shelby - Roy Lee Price , 84, of Carillon Assisted Living, 1550 Charles Road died Thursday, February 3, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

     Born in Rutherford County, he was  son of the late Noah Francis Price and Alice McFarland Price.  Mr. Price grew up with his three brothers on their parents' dairy farm in the Duncan's Creek Community.  At the age of seventeen he joined the Navy and served on the George K. McKenzie Battleship during the closing days of WWII.  In 1951 he began work at Shelby Supply as a traveling salesman where he held the distinction of top salesman.  He married the love of his life, Lorene Whitaker, and while living on Lee Street  became the proud father of a daughter, Lynn.  In 1963 Roy and his brother, Robert, founded Dixie Industrial Supply which is still in existence today and later Roy also founded Cleveland Industrial Supply.  In 1974 Roy and wife Lorene began Specialty Lighting in the former Shelby Farmers Market building and later moved to Washburn Switch Road.  Specialty Lighting was his crowning accomplishment and the culmination of his many life experiences and a special vision.  Roy's hands-on leadership endeared him to his customers and the Specialty Lighting family.   In 1986 the Prices sold Specialty Lighting.  Gardening and family pursuits filled many of Roy's retirement days.  The last years of his life Roy battled Alzheimers Disease and became a special part of the family at Carillon Assisted Living.

     In addition to his parents, Mr. Price was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbur Price.  

     Mr. Price is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorene Whitaker Price, daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Neil Wright of Shelby; grandchildren, Wendy Wright Parker of Huntersville and Wesley Neil Wright of Charlotte; brothers, Robert F. Price and wife Ruby of Shelby and Richard Price and wife Mary Sue of Duncan's Creek; numerous nieces and nephews;  special caregiver, Glenn Wright; devoted caregivers at Carillon Assisted Living; and granddog, Snickers.

     The family will receive friends at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston from 1:00 until 2:30 Sunday.  At other times the family will be at the home of Lynn and Neil Wright, 1636 N. Oak Drive, Shelby, NC.

     The funeral will be at 3:00 PM Sunday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Fulbright and Mr. Myles Whitaker officiating.  Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park in Boiling Springs.
