Royce Thomas Hayes Sr.
Royce Thomas Hayes Sr., 92, a native of Barrow County, Ga., passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at the home of his grandson, Bhrett and wife Rachell, in Taylors, who were the caregivers for Mr. and Mrs. Hayes for the past year and a half.

Mr. Hayes lived in the Beaver Dam Community near Shelby all of his life, and retired from J.P. Stevens company as a loom fixer. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church of Shelby and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Hoyt Hayes and Minnie Fields Hayes.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Miriam Hammett Hayes of Taylors; son and daughter-in-law, Royce Thomas Hayes Jr. “Tommy” and Heather of Manassas, Va.; grandson and his wife, Bhrett & Rachell Hayes of Taylors; grandson, Branden Hayes of Robinsville; great-grandsons, Ethan, Justen and Eli Hayes; and sisters, Joyce and Lois of Shelby.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Paul Sorrells and the Rev. Phil Hughes.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. 

Burial will be in Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.
