Royle Lee Champion, 86, of 3215 Dublin Rd. in Charlotte, passed away Saturday January 19, 2013 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Charlotte.
Born June 9, 1926 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Lee Champion and Gazie Southard Champion. He was a retired fueler for Eastern Airlines and served in the US Navy during WWII on the Aircraft Carrier USS Tarawa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Elsie Thayer Champion.
Survivors include one daughter, Candace Burke of Charlotte and one grandson, Jason Edmund Burke of Charlotte.
Graveside service will be Wednesday at 11:00AM at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston with Rev. David Hiatt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte 2700 Toomey Ave. Charlotte, NC 28203.
