Russell Austel (J.R.) Lanier, 66, of 727 Wilcox Avenue, passed away January 18th, 2014 at McCall Hospice House of Greenville County.
Born in Gaffney, he was married to Kathy Parker Lanier of the home and the son of the late William Odell (Obie) Lanier and Lillie Leann Cobb Lanier. He worked as a Fixer and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Lanier is survived by son, James Brian Lanier of Blacksburg; two stepsons, Steven Messer of Gaffney and Micheal Lanier of Blacksburg; one daughter, Michelle Hill of Gaffney and two step-daughters, Krystal Bolton and Leslie Wyatt of Gaffney; two brothers, Curley Lanier and Frank Lanier of Blacksburg; one sister, Doris Mullinax of Blacksburg; fifteen grandchildren, Russell Austel Lanier III, Josh Lanier, Ashley Lanier, Jacob Lee Rising, Elaina Diane Rising, Darren Eugene Bolton, Chase Messer, Megan Messer, Gable Messer, Greg Jones II, Brandy Jones, Jessica Jones, Chris Hill, Dougie Hill, and Natalie Lanier. He was preceded in death by his son, Russell A. Lanier, Jr. and brothers Clemoth Lanier and Lester Lanier.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 20th, 2014 from 6:00 pm -7:30 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will he held Tuesday, January 21st, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Christian Fellowship Church with Rev. Willie Lanier and Rev. Wayne Arrowood officiating. Interment will follow at Hambright Cemetery. Greg Jones II, Tommy Spencer, Andrew Mikota, Brian Blanton, Dennis Ray, Brian Parker, Anthony Lanier, and Jeremy Pinero will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be at the residence.
