Mrs. Ruth Evelyn Van Valkenburgh Cowan, 96, of Shelby, NC, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010. Funeral Services are private and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Mrs. Cowan was preceded in death by her husband, Everett William Cowan; her parents, Daniel H. and Bessie Mae Van Valkenburgh; and 1 brother, Dana VanValkenburgh.
She is survived by 2 sons, Lawrence Hamlin Cowan of Shelby and E. Conrad Cowan of Haw River, NC; 1 daughter, Carol Jo Cowan of Shelby; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice of Wendover, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
