Ruth Kathleen McSwain Whisnant, 88, 1777 Country Road, Boonville, IN, formerly of Shelby, NC died Monday, July 11, 2016 at ­St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, IN.

Born August 20, 1927, in Cleveland County, NC, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Marvin Whisnant; her parents Willard Buren and Miller (Millie) McSwain; three brothers - Phate, Ernest, and Buren McSwain; and two sisters - Hester Lovelace and Lelabell Washburn.

Surviving are children Michael (Betty) of Easley, SC, Mitchell (Vickie) of Kingsport, TN, Patricia (Jim) Delano of Fort Worth, TX, Nathan (Tammy) of Henderson, KY, and Helen (Gene) Hall of the home; 10 grandchildren, David, Jonathan, Matthew, and Christopher Whisnant, Cassandra Edinger, Cara Roberson, Allen and Daniel Delano, Kathleen Stanley, and Elizabeth Fisher; 12 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Carson and Camden Whisnant, Emily Pewitt, Tyler Delano, Nikolas and Timothy Delano, Preston Miller, Madeline and Duke Edinger, and Angel and James West.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2016 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at Double Springs Baptist Church, 1130 Double Springs Church Road, Shelby, NC with services following at 2:00 pm at the church with Rev. Mitchell Whisnant and Dr. Nathan Whisnant officiating. Burial will be in church cemetery.
