S SGT. Rudolph "Rudy" Bryl
S SGT. Rudolph "Rudy" Bryl, US Army, Retired, Vietnam War Veteran, age 81, of Forest City, died Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Hospice House in Forest City.
Born on Saturday, November 17, 1934 in Malang, Indonesia, he was a son to the late Max Edward Brijil and Thecla Maria Van Dissel Brijil. Rudy traveled the world as a member of the Dutch Merchant Marines. He retired from the US Army as a staff sergeant and served honorably for twenty years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Rudy also retired from Cone Mills-Cliffside Plant. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason and an Oasis Shriner. Rudy served on the Rutherford County Honor Guard and was a member of the American Legion and the local DAV. He served Meals on Wheels for several years and was a longtime member of the Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church. Rudy was known for his generosity and kindness. He truly loved the Lord, his family, his church family and his friends. Rudy will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by one brother, Edward Brijil.
Survivors include his loving wife of thirty two years, Carolyn Radford Bryl; seven children, Chiqiuta Maria Parker of Portland, Oregon, Rodolfo Brijil and wife, Denet of Smackover, Arkansas, Jessica Ann Brijil and wife, Rose of Virginia, Rosita Alexander Radd of Alaska, Teresa Evonne Mendoza of Rutherfordton, Sherry Ann Wallace and husband, Gary of Union Mills and Marietta Lyn Long of Harris; one brother, Eric Brijil and wife Petra of the Netherlands; sister-in-law, Yvonne Brijil of Florahome, Florida. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church with Reverend Leon Brown and Reverend Fred Williams officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the church.
