Sallie Earls

Sallie Earls, 79, passed away peacefully at Wendover Hospice on August 20, 2022.

A native of North Carolina, Sallie was one of twelve children of the late Fred Crotts and Lucy Hoyle Crotts. She was also preceded in death by her husband Buck Earls.

She is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann James, two sons, Kenneth Ricky Ingle and William Jeffrey Ingle, all of Shelby, NC, four grandchildren, Haley Whisnant and husband Trey, Kenneth Ricky Ingle, Jr., Nicholas Ingle, and Tyler Ingle, and two great grandchildren, Cort and Scout Whisnant.

Sallie was a devoted fan of the tv show "The Walking Dead" and allegedly broke onto the set in Atlanta, GA. She was very upset after finding out that they weren't filming and on the way home she purchased a Darryl Dixon style cross bow for a souvenir.

Sallie was known for her great generosity and loving nature, but was quick witted and fast to pull a prank. One of her favorite stories to tell was of the infamous sponge cake that she entered in a cake baking contest and to the judges dismay it was made of real sponges and not cake. Her gag gifts were always a treat and her family loved to hear her cackle over pooping reindeer toys at Christmas. She loved crafts and books. She could finish a 500 page novel in a day. She devoured puzzles and crosswords. Some of the dearest memories shared with her were watching "the stories" on the soaps and laughing at the dramatic way Julia Childs cooked giant fishes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cleveland Funeral Services on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 2:00 pm with a visitation held one hour prior. The Rev. Carrie Carpenter will officiate the services.
