Gaffney -- Mr. Samuel Coy Powell Sr., 84, of 119 Pleasant Meadows, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Peachtree Centre.

Born in Gaffney, he was the widower of Betty Scoggins Powell and the son of the late Jesse Lee Powell and Vernie Keller Powell. Samuel previously owned a service station for 33 years and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Powell are a son, Samuel Coy Powell Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Gaffney; a daughter, Bettina Waters, of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Kesha Jones and husband, Jason, of Rhine, GA, Samuel Coy "Trey" Powell III and wife, Laura, of Gaffney, and Renae Wright of Duncan; five great-grandchildren, Georgia Kate, Griffin, and Emily Jones of Rhine, GA and Heidi and Samuel Coy Powell IV, both of Gaffney; three brothers, Bobby Powell of Gaffney, Ray Powell of Georgia, and Wallace Powell of Cowpens; and four sisters, Elizabeth Phillips, Mildred Smith, Esther Truluck, and Gail George, all of Gaffney.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Powell was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Lee Powell, a brother, Hamon Powell, and two sisters, Irene Addis and Margaret Brown.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 18th of December, 2018, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Terry Duvall officiating. Interment will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Ricky Addis, Michael Addis, Dennis Truluck, David George, Trey Powell, and Donnie Thomas will serve as pallbearers.
