Ms. Sara Lee Mode, age 84 of Shelby, NC, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ann Duncan and Rev. Roy Byers. Visitation will be held from 12:30 - 1:30 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawndale.
Sara is survived by her sister, Julia O'Reilly of Mint Hill, NC and brother Carme Lee of Shelby; two daughters, Wanda Spangler Guffey and husband Harvey (Jr.) of Ellenboro, NC, and Lisa Spangler McLaurin and husband Dan of Belwood, NC; three step-children and their families, Gene Mode of Shelby, Joette Mode Norris of Boone, NC, and Carolyn Mode Bailey of Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren, Chad Ridings and wife Annie of Shelby, Aaron Ridings and wife Laura of Muskegon, MI, Kyle Elliott and wife Ashley of Polkville, NC, Sara Elliott Willis and husband Brian of Casar, NC, Matthew Guffey and wife Katie of Honolulu, HI, and Katie Guffey of Ellenboro, NC; five great-grandchildren, Luke, Emma, Isaac and John Ridings, and Will Guffey; and four special nieces and nephews.
Born October 21, 1930 in Shelby, Ms. Mode was the daughter of the late James Walter Lee and Mary Ramseur Lee, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Eugene Mode; three brothers, Carl, George and Paul Lee; and two sisters, Mary Lizzie Lee and Anne Lee.
After graduating from Piedmont High School, Sara was employed as a waitress at Mayhew Restaurant of Shelby, NC and then was a long-time employee of Sears prior to retiring in 1992. She was an extremely active member of Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church, and loved traveling, playing the piano, singing, dancing, and spending time with family and friends.
