Sheila Beattie Gardner, 63, of Shelby, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at home.  She was the daughter of the late Dorothy Beattie.  She is also preceded in death by her sister Darlene B. Ray.  Mrs. Gardner was retired from PPG industries after thirty three years of service and the Cleveland County Clerk of Courts Office after four years of service.  She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher in the bed babies department for twenty five years, Acteen Leader, nursery worker, and multiple other roles.  Mrs. Gardner was an active volunteer with Relay for Life of Cleveland County and was the recipient of the Spirit of Relay Award in 2009.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by her loving husband of forty-four years, Dean Gardner of the home; sons, Brad Gardner and wife Julie of Kings Mountain, NC, Mark Gardner and wife Shelley of Shelby, NC; a sister, Jan Judy and husband Rauly of Aiken, SC; brothers, Mike Beattie and wife Linda of New Ellenton, SC, Randy Beattie and wife Patti of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Chance Storey and Kayleigh VanDyke.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Gardner will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Jeff Brendle will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:30 on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home in Shelby.
