Shirley Cain Crump Carothers

Shirley Cain Crump Carothers, age 94, died October 22, 2017 at Hospice of Greensboro. Born December 22, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Bernie Davis Cain and Mary Louise Howard Cain. Shirley attended East Texas State Teachers College as well as Gardner Webb University. Shirley loved music and shared her beautiful voice and love of music in several church choirs in both the Gaffney and Shelby areas. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed cooking. Shirley worked as a legal secretary for various law firms in the area.

In addition to her parents Shirley is preceded in death by her first husband Marcus G. Crump as well as her second husband Dr. Randolph E. Carothers, Jr.

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia Dixon and husband Stan of Greensboro, and Carole Malek of Winston-Salem; one step-son, R.E. Carothers, III; five grandchildren; Bill Dixon, III and wife Tammy, Libbi Gundaker and husband Jason, Joseph Liles, IV and wife Heidi, Elizabeth Lockerman and husband Matthew and Randolph Carothers, IV (Chip) and wife Katy; two great grandchildren, Matt Gundaker and Isabelle Liles; and three step great grandchildren, Jeremy Councilman, Kensley Councilman and Caitlyn Councilman.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Randy Biggers Carothers for her love and support.

Memorial service will be held 2 pm October 31, 2017 at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Luke Harkey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
