Shirley Elizabeth Carpenter Smith, age 79 of Mary's Grove Church Road died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Peak Resources. She was born on April 1, 1936 in Gaston County to the late William Harvey and Mary Magdalene Bowman Carpenter. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Shirley was formerly employed with Durham Life. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, painting, and crafting. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Sidney Smith.
Survivors include her sons, Dean Davis and wife, Sherri of Cherryville, Ricky Davis and wife, Lois of Shelby, Brent Davis of Kings Mountain and Tammy Campbell of Cherryville, and Todd Davis and wife, Dana of Kings Mountain; brother, Stanley Carpenter and wife, Doris of Iron Station; grandchildren, Heather Gardner and husband, James, Kelly Harris and husband, Dan, Bart Davis and wife, Fashion, Keith Davis and wife, Michelle, Brandon Davis and wife, Beatriz, Tray Davis and wife, Shirley, TJ Davis and wife, Brooke, Jennifer Davis, Keyla Davis, and Colby Davis; and great grandchildren, Madison, Bella, Dane, Sadie, Serenity, Preston "P-Beau," Parker, Braxton, Gracie, Kinsley, Lucas, Jayden, Landon, and one on the way.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Jerry Lail officiating. Burial will follow at Mary's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
