Star Wars Reads Day To Be Held At Cleveland Memorial Library, Shelby
Saturday, October 6, 2012 marks the first “Star Wars Reads Day” with over 1,000 events planned across the country. Created by Lucasfilm and its publishing partners, including DK Publishing, Dark Horse Comics, and Scholastic, Star Wars Reads Day brings fans of Star Wars together to celebrate literacy. Cleveland County’s reading party will be held from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at the Cleveland County Memorial Library, 104 Howie Dr., Shelby (across from Shelby City Park). You and your kids can win special giveaways, and the opportunity to meet some of your favorite Star Wars characters in costume, and connect with other fans of the Star Wars Universe.
CCML patrons will have the opportunity to share their Favorite “Star Wars” moments and memories on the libraries own “Star Wars” Memory Wall.
A classic movie will be shown during the week leading up to the “Star Wars Reads Day” event:
• On Thursday, October 4, 2012, “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Episode I” Featured actress Michonne Bourriaque, who plays “Aurra Sing” is a relative of CCML staff member Dolores Ashworth! Ms. Bourriague has donated autographed photos and a signed Disney figure, and a signed action figure which will be offered as door prizes on Saturday.
Both films will be screened at 6:00 p.m. Tickets may be picked up ahead of time at the CCML front desk. Seating is limited.
Saturday’s events include:
• A “Star Wars Trivia Contest” at 11:00 a.m. and will be located in the CCML meeting room. The last person standing will win unique “Star Wars” prizes!
• Exhibit tables featuring “Star Wars” memorabilia and collectables.
• Children’s activities including a “Star Wars” Art Tattoo Station, interactive computer stations featuring the “Star Wars” LEGO site from www.readBUILDplay.com and a children’s table with goodie bags, “Star Wars” activity sheets, books and other fun surprises!
• Costumed “Star Wars” characters from The Carolina Garrison of the 501st Legion featuring:
Kenneth Jordan Jr. TB-1345: Scout Trooper (Biker Scout) from “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi”
Hope Roten SL-9819: Mara Jade (Secret Assassin for the Emperor and who later marries Luke Skywalker) from the “Star Wars” novel “Star Wars: Heir to the Empire” by Timothy Zahn.
Charles Moss TR-2442: Imperial Royal Guard From “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back”, “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi”, and “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith”
Tom Gardner TK-5940: Stormtrooper and/or Tusken Raider (Sandpeople) from “Star Wars: A New Hope”
