| State Grant Helps FAS Controls To Expand |

Gov. Bev Perdue has announced that FAS Controls Inc., a manufacturer of custom designed electromechanical components, will expand its current facility in Cleveland County. The company plans to create 52 jobs and invest $1.5 million over the next year in Shelby. The project was made possible in part by a $45,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.
“This is the second jobs announcement for Cleveland County in one week,” said Gov. Bev Perdue. “Monday was computer services, and today is cutting edge manufacturing. These new jobs highlight how companies continue to be attracted to North Carolina’s trained, educated workforce and top-ranked business climate.”
FAS Controls is a manufacturer of custom designed electromechanical components primarily for vehicles. The company’s current product offerings include custom flow control valves for diesel engines, heavy truck transmission shift control valves, pressure switches, and other electromechanical assemblies. Originally founded in 1911, FAS Controls moved to Shelby in 1973, where it currently employs 149 people.
“We are very pleased to be able to expand in Cleveland County and bring growth to a community that has served us well for many years,” stated William Brown, President of FAS Controls. “We are also proud that the state and local governments remain in strong support of their incumbent manufacturing base.”
Salaries will vary by job function, but the average annual wage for the new jobs will be $28,308, not including benefits. The Cleveland County average annual wage is $31,200.
The One North Carolina Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds. These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.
North Carolina continues to have a top-ranked business climate. Through Gov. Perdue’s JobsNOW initiative, the state works aggressively to create jobs, train and retrain its workforce, and lay the foundation for a strong and sustainable economic future.
Through use of the One North Carolina Fund, more than 45,000 jobs and $8 billion in investment have been created since 2001. Other partners that helped with this project include the N.C. Department of Commerce, Cleveland County and the City of Shelby.
