Sudie Mae Dixon Fortenberry

Sudie Mae Dixon Fortenberry, age 97, died Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Carillon Assisted Living in Shelby. Born in Cleveland County on April 8, 1921 she was the daughter of the late William Ernest Dixon and Dessie Blanche Stewart Dixon. Sudie Mae was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church in Grover. She enjoyed gardening and was a skilled seamstress. She will be remembered for the great person that she was.

In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband of 62 ½ years, George M. Fortenberry; one daughter, Nancy Rollins; one son, Kenneth Fortenberry; two infant grandsons and a grandson, Bruce Fortenberry; son-in-law, Lawrence Simpson, two sisters; Mary Dixon and Ovedia Dixon as well as three brothers; William Dixon, Boyce Dixon, and Robert Dixon.

Sudie Mae is survived by two sons; Carl Fortenberry and wife Faye of Columbia, TN and Harry Fortenberry and wife Debbie, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, two daughters; Linda F. Wright and husband Sonny of Grover and Glenda Simpson of Grover; son-in-law Gene Rollins of Shelby and daughter-in-law, Hilda Hylemon and husband Bob of Shelby. Eight grandchildren, Jerry Rollins and wife Coleen of Piedmont, SC, David Rollins and wife April of Grover, Brian Fortenberry and wife Kathy of Shelby, Jason Fortenberry and wife Mary Ellen of Columbia, TN, Aaron Fortenberry and wife Jennifer of Portland, TN, Marlo Simms of Shalimar, FL, Holly Nuss and husband Scott of Mary Esther, FL, and Eric Simpson of Grover as well as many great and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 3pm Sunday, June 10, 2018 in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Robbie Moore officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery.
