SHELBY - Ms. Susan Kathleen Garcia, 70, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Wendover Hospice surrounded by her loving family. Born in Milwalkee, WI, she is the daughter of Helen Kathleen Marten of Wisconsin and the late Philip Marten, Jr.
Susan leaves behind a daughter, Trinidad Richards and husband, Jim of the home; her mother, Helen Kathleen Marten of WI: two wonderful grandchildren, John and Mary Richards of Shelby.
She was an active member in her community in Wisconsin as a volunteer with Independence First Resource, a resource for disabled people. She went to Milwaukee School of Engineering, retired from Vulcan Global Manufacturing Solutions and worked with Pest Control. Susan enjoyed working word search puzzles and needle point but most of all she loved being around and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sue always tried to help people to the best of her ability, and had perfect work attendance for years at Vulcan GMS. She was very giving to her family and especially to her grand children, John and Mary.
When Sue was volunteering for Independence First, she received Christ as her own personal savior. After being diagnosed with cancer, her journey and focus was to follow God's specific will for her life, and how she could help and comfort others with cancer. She clung to verse Luke 1:37
A 3:00 pm graveside service will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Cliffside Cemetery, Beason Road, Cliffside, NC with Pastor Jim Davidson officiating. The family will receive guests before and after the service.
Flowers may be sent to Cliffside Cemetery or to the home of the family.
