Susan Raines Mayfield, 73, of 401 Barclay Avenue, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.

Born in Shelby, NC, she was the wife of Danny Ray Mayfield and daughter of the late Mary Sue Collins Raines. She retired from textiles, was currently a caregiver, and was of the Baptist faith. She loved her family, animals, especially her dog "Reese" and hummingbirds, and loved to read.

In addition to her husband, also surviving is a son, Benjamin "Benji" Mayfield of Gaffney; daughter Tracy Oaks (David) of Shelby; daughter-in-law, Melissa Hicks of Chesnee; sister, Linda Wilson of Shelby; two grandchildren, David Oaks and Chase Oaks; great-grandchild, Benjamin Wyatt Oaks; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brandy Mayfield-Hicks, a granddaughter, Alyssa Jade Mayfield, a brother, Richard Raines and a special friend, Brenda Chumley.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron Culbertson and Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
