The Episcopal Church Of The Redeemer Celebrates 150 Years!
On the Day of Pentecost, May 23rd, the Reverend Valori Mulvey Sherer, Rector of The Episcopal Church Of The Redeemer, and the congregation began the celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the church. Special recognition of the volunteers was followed by a brief history of Redeemer. After the 10:30 Mass everyone got together for a picnic lunch and a day of games and family activities which included corn hole and ladder golf, a 3 legged race, spouse carry, sack race, egg carry relay and an adult tricycle race.  Photos, memorabilia, personal messages and trivia were collected to be included in a special time capsule which will be opened in 50 years, 2060, at the 200th Anniversary. The Episcopal Church Of The Redeemer is located at 502 W. Sumter St. in Shelby. The church has become very involved in the community through their outreach programs.  The church recently started a program called “The Shepherds Table” that feeds breakfast and lunch to the homeless.
