Thomas "Tom" Alan Wheeler
Thomas "Tom"   Alan Wheeler, 56, 166 Walker Farm Road, Gaffney, SC,  died November 30, 2012, in Gaffney, SC, as the result of an autombile accident.  He is a son of  George A. Wheeler of Gaffney, and the late Joan S. Wheeler.

Born March 21, 1956, in Spartanburg County, Tom was a "native son" of the Sunnyside Community in lower Cherokee County.  You won't find Sunnyside on the map, but that's what the local folks have always called this stretch of good farm country between the Broad and Pacolet Rivers.  Tom made his home by the creekside on his piece of the family farm.

As a songwriter and musician, his music reflected the good things about country living and his connection to the land and the people.  He enjoyed woodworking, telling tall tales and beekeeping.  Tom worked previously in the timber industry.

In addition to his father, he is survived by one brother - David Wheeler and wife, Robin Alexander, of Gaffney; two sisters - Mary Lois Wheeler of Union and Jan Whelchel and husband, Wendell, of Gaffney;  a niece, Julie Phillips of Gaffney; and his faithful canine companion, "Horrible".

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 1:00 PM, with Revs. Tommy Hill and Toby Pope officiating, at Salem Presbyterian Church, Gaffney.  The family will visit with  friends after the service.  At other times, they will be at their respective homes.

You may remember Tom with memorials to Cherokee County Meals On Wheels, 403 W. Montgomery Street, Gaffney, SC, 29341.
