Mr. McCarver was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Grier and Matilda Peters McCarver.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Hill McCarver; two daughters, Mary Lynn Hicks of Boiling Springs and Meg Earley and husband Scott of Chapin, SC; and by four grandchildren.
