Tom Hamrick

Mr. Tom Hamrick, age 84 of Shelby, NC, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.  Memorial services will be held 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Tom Steagald.  A visitation will be held from 5:30 – 7:00 pm prior to the service at the Church.

   He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis (Wilson) Hamrick of the home, three children, David Hamrick and wife Linda of Mt. Holly, NC, Stephanie Hamrick of Pulaski, TN, and Alyssa Dodd and husband David of Shelby, NC, five grandchildren, Ryan Hamrick and wife Scarlet of Charlotte, NC, Clay Hamrick of Mt. Holly, NC, Katie Adams and husband Jesse of Pulaski, TN, Grayson Eaker of Dallas, TX, and Elliot Dodd of Athens, OH, five great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Barbara Dover of Shelby, NC and several nieces and nephews.

   Born April 20, 1930 in Rutherford County, Mr. Hamrick was the son of Alda Victoria (Hamrick) Brown and was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Meredith Ann Dodd, and his maternal grandparents, Eva and Asa Hamrick.  A U.S. Army Veteran, Tom attended Georgia Tech University where he studied Engineering.  Throughout his life, he worked for DuPont, Miami Heart Institute for one of the first heart lung operations, NASA, working with the Gemini Space Capsule, and J.A. Jones Construction. Tom was an active member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church participating in several mission trips and was an active member of Emmaus.  Mr. Hamrick was a Free Mason, a flying enthusiast, and owned his own plane.  Tom had various hobbies which included: beekeeping, making stained glass art, basket weaving, owned a fruit orchard and pecan grove, and was a charter member of the Foothills Herb Society.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Tumor Fund of the Carolinas,  P.O. Box 5627, Charlotte, NC 28299.
