Truman H. Smiley "Smiley

Truman H. Smiley "Smiley", age 94, died March 23, 2016 at Hospice Cleveland County Wendover. Born in Ohio County, Kentucky on June 13, 1921 he was the son of the late Herman E. Smiley and Survilla Ward Smiley. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Smiley retired from Overnight Trucking as a Long Haul Trucker. Smiley was a WWII U.S. Army combat veteran of the Pacific Theater and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Smiley enjoyed playing music, eating at the "Clock" and spending time with a special friend, Betty Greene. Smiley is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Hamrick Smiley "Mot"; a daughter Joy Smiley Day; three brothers Alton Smiley, Autrey Smiley and H.B. Smiley; four sisters Nora Smiley, Bettie Turner, Ovail Bartlett and Carlin Hansford; and a grandson Scott Queen.

Smiley is survived by two sons, Wayne Smiley and wife Barbara of Kings Mountain, NC; Rick Smiley of Shelby; five grandchildren, Teresa Smiley Hamrick and husband Willie; Todd Queen and his family, Sonya, Sadie and Sunshine; Miranda Smiley Wood and husband Dustin; Courtney Smiley Wright and husband Seth, and Erica Day Reel. Smiley is also survived by six great grandchildren; Victoria Hayes, Jeremy Hayes, Alec Day, Audrey Wood, Lucy Wood and Silas Wright

Service will be held at 3:30pm on Saturday March 26, 2016 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain with Rev. Rob Quillan and Rev. Jim Brackett officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park Cemetery.
