Vail Olin Doty, age 83, of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Wendover Hospice House. A native of Cleveland County he is the son of the late Garland Echo Doty and Vassie Walker Doty. He loved Atlanta Braves baseball and watching football. He enjoyed hunting when he was younger. He worked for J.P. Stevens Company for 30 years and later worked and retired from Cleveland County Schools. Mr. Doty was a loving husband and father. He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Doty was a devoted Christian and loved his Lord.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ward, James, and Gene Doty.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Lee Doty; one son, Mark Doty and wife Melany of Connelly Springs; two sisters, Joyce Doty and Elizabeth Doty both of Cherryville; one nephew and three nieces.  

Visitation: 6:00 – 8:00pm Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Cleveland Funeral Services

Funeral Service: 2:00pm Friday, January 10, 2014 at Double Springs Baptist Church
