Vernon James Russ, 78 of North Lafayette Street, Shelby, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at his residence.

Born in Cleveland County, NC on November 5, 1944, he was the son of the late M.G. Russ and Pearlie Mae Miller Russ. He was retired from Shelby Elastics.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Russ; a sister, Peggy Russ Brooks and a beloved mother-in-law, Minnie Bridges.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Peggy Bridges Russ; two daughters, Donna Russ Runyon and Tim Gilliland of Polkville and Tracy Russ Thomas and husband, Jeff of Shelby; two sisters, Roxie Russ Sisk and husband, Charlie and Judy Russ Lowe both of South Carolina; four grandchildren, James Timothy Brown(Kelsey Rollins) of Spartanburg, SC, Teddy Michelle White of Shelby, James Tyler Camp (Adam Furr) of Greensboro and Samantha Rozell Thomas (Amber Thomas) of Shelby and three great-grandchildren, Donathan Brown, Cory Brown and Dessie Wiggins.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Chapman officiating.

The burial will be private.
