Virgil Carlton Beam

Virgil Carlton Beam, age 88 died Saturday October 19, 2013 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. Born in Cleveland County on January 14, 1925 he was the son of the late Elzie Lee and Della Cora Borders Beam. He was an active member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon.  He served in the U. S. Air Force during WWII, was a self-employed brick mason, and volunteered for Hospice. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Carlton had a great personality and loved people and doing for others. He enjoyed golf, farming and the Atlanta Braves. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Carylon Black Beam, a sister,Caroline Martin and an infant sister; Myra Sue Beam; and a brother, Mike Beam.

Carlton is survived by his three daughters, Shully Price and fiancée Wesley Sparks of Concord, Vonn McGee and husband Mike, and Carla Greene and husband Bill all of Shelby; six grandchildren, Chad Holland, Tara Price Gander and husband Mike, Brooke Thomas Barrick and husband Doug, Robbie Thomas, Spencer Greene and Mallory Greene;sisters, Louise McKee of Durham, Vernell Goforth Jones of Kings Mountain, Cora Shinn and husband Ed of Salisbury; brothers, Charles Beam and wife Frances of Shelby, David Beam and wife Aileen of Shelby; and six great grandchildren

Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 11:00 am at Elizabeth Baptist Church with Dr. Rit Varriale and Rev. Clint Padgett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors.  The family will receive friends on Sunday October 20, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
