Virginia Evelyn Rollins Baldwin

Virginia Evelyn Rollins Baldwin, died January 13, 2018, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. She was 81 years old.

Born July 15, 1936 in Rockdale, North Carolina in Cleveland County. She was the daughter of Griffin Gold Rollins and Minnie Mahaley Oates Rollins.

She began school at Bellwood and graduated from Waco High School class of 1954. She received her nursing education at the Cleveland Nursing School
and worked as a nurse at the North Carolina Orthopedic Children's Hospital. Working with children, especially those with special needs was a lifelong passion.

She obtained a degree in Early Childhood Education from Isothermal College and managed a child care business for many years. She also owned and
managed Baldwin Metals and Baldwin Properties with her husband of 47 years.

She perfected the rare art of listening. For her, listening was an expression of her caring and her faith. Her smile was contagious, addictive and ever present. She expressed love with deeds and her hands were seldom idle. She loved to sing, sew, garden and travel. Helping her children, grandchildren and friends was her purpose.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Glenn Baldwin, 6 brothers, Edward, Thurman, Paul, Kenneth, Ray and Grady Rollins and 2 sisters, Dorothy Upton and Marjorie Burton.

She is survived by a daughter, Renda Turnbill and husband, Tony Alden Turnbill of Shelby; a son, Ernie Baldwin of Charlotte; four surrogate sons, Ray Fuentes of Charlotte and Jeffrey Connor Baldwin of Charlotte, Charles Petty of Boiling Springs and Sergio Valian of Charlotte; two grandsons, Justen Clyde Turnbill of Shelby, and Jacob Stephen Turnbill of Shelby, two great grandchildren, Justen and Austen; one brother, Gene Rollins of Shelby; two sister-in-laws, Beth Rollins of Shelby and Cackie Rollins of Winston-Salem; numerous nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Mary Ann Stamey Canipe; closest friends and caregivers, Carolyn Clontz of
Shelby, Susie Cook of Shelby, and Mia Davis of Boiling Springs.

Cremation Society of Charlotte, Inc. served the family located at 4300 Statesville Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28269.
