Virginia “Gin” Gertrude Patterson Short, age 87, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at her home. Born in Rutherford County on July 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Wiley and Vivian Gertrude Burgin Patterson.  Gin loved and lived for her family. In addition to her parents, Gin is preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Alexander Short and John Edward Johnson; two sons, Jack Rodney Short and Gary Edward Short; a daughter, Phyllis Diane Lackey; three brothers, and one sister.

Gin is survived by a son, George Wiley Short of Shelby; three daughters, Brenda Hannon and husband Larry of Shelby, Carolyn Williams of Gainesville, Ga, and Darlene Deaton and husband Steve of Cherryville; a son-in-law, Ed Lackey of Clover, SC; three sisters: Wila Faye Dixon of Augusta, Ga., Marie Grigg of Gastonia, and Faye Rushing of York, SC; three brothers: Odell Patterson and wife Kathy of Kings Mountain, John Patterson and wife Irene of Gastonia, and Marshall Patterson and wife Aretha of Laurel Hill; six grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and friend and caregiver Eunice Bonilla.

Graveside service will be on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10:30 am at Cherryville Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Lail officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:00am until 10:00am, before the service at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.
