Virginia "Ginger" Greene Secrest
Shelby- Mrs. Virginia "Ginger" Greene Secrest, age 74 of College Avenue, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at her home. Born in Vance County she was the daughter of the late Clarence Edward and Virginia Elam Barnes Greene. Mrs. Secrest was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She attended Wake Forest University and obtained a degree in nursing from Baptist Hospital.  She was an extremely active member of Central United Methodist Church of Shelby.  Ginger served as President of the United Methodist Women and received a lifetime membership from this group.  She also attended All Saints Episcopal Church in Linville, NC as well as Chapel by the Lake at Grandfather Golf and Country Club.  She consistently attended various weekly bible studies and prayer groups dependent upon her location.  Ginger was a member of the Shelby Junior Charity League.  She was an avid gardener, as exhibited by membership in Shelby Garden Club. Ginger enjoyed playing tennis, loved cooking for her family and friends and managed to find time to paint in the Art Loft while in Linville, NC.  

Mrs. Secrest is survived by her husband of 52 years, Alvin Jackson Secrest, Jr, MD.; three sons, Alvin Jackson Secrest III, MD and wife Haley of Cottonwood, Idaho, Edward Blair Secrest of Durham, and David Alexander Secrest and wife Natalie of Charlotte; one sister, Rose Fagan and husband Cliff of Greenwood SC; four grandchildren, Trotter, Benjamin, Parks and Winnie; and brother and sister-in-law Libby and Mike Trull.  Ginger and her family express extreme gratitude to Martha Eskridge and Tina Roberts for their loving care.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 11:00am at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Craig Langston officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.
