Voncile“Peaches” Monjure

Voncile“Peaches” Monjure, age 87 died Thursday,  February 27, 2014 at Carillon Assisted Living. Born on March 1, 1926 in Tuscaloosa Alabama, she was the daughter of Lee Murray and Elma Moore Jones. Peaches lived most of her life in New Orleans with her husband and she moved to Shelby eight years ago after Hurricane Katrina. She worked as a much loved caregiver and baby sitter in New Orleans and Shelby. She was a member of First Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Monjure Sr.; a son, John Monjure Jr.; a sister, Nota Whatley and two other sisters; and a brother.

Peaches is survived by a son, Gerard Monjure and wife Pat of Kings Mountain; a brother, Berry Jones and wife Mary of Fayette AL;  seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; nephew and niece, Al and Pat Whatley of Shelby; and many other nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Hospice Cleveland  County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby NC 28150.
