Mr. Wilbur Greene, age 81, husband of Frances Jeanette Splawn Greene of Hwy 64 Union Mills passed away Sunday May 15, 2016 at Hospice House in Forest City, NC. A native of Rutherford County, NC he was born May 19, 1934 to the late Monroe Ervin Greene and Ester Mayo Cowan Greene; Wilbur was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he obtained the rank of Specialist while serving with Company A 83^rd Engineers Battalion. He is retired from Reeves Brothers where he worked as a maintenance mechanic and was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church of Union Mills, NC.

Wilbur is survived by his wife Frances Jeanette Splawn Greene of the home, their children - James Greene and wife Lisa of Bostic, NC; Ervin Greene and wife Katherine of Rutherfordton, NC; Ronnie Greene and fiancé Beverly McMahon of Union Mills, NC; Sharon Date and husband Terry of Bostic, NC. He is also survived by his brother Charles Greene of Union Mills, NC; sister Betty Lane of Union Mills, NC; sister Jerolene Lane of Union Mills, NC; sister Gladys Campbell and husband Jerry of Rutherfordton, NC; brother-in-law Billy Splawn and wife Brenda of Union Mills, NC; Ann Splawn wife of brother-in-law Jimmy Splawn who preceded him in death. Mr. Greene also leaves eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents Wilbur was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Greene and sisters Jean Brown and Thelma Blankenship.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday May 17, 2016 at Cane Creek Baptist Church 151 Cane Creek Mountain Road Union Mills, NC 28167 with Rev. Danny Camp and Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating. Concluding services will be held in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Monday May 16, 2016 at Crowe's Mortuary.
