Wilford Gold (Bill) Cooke
Wilford Gold (Bill) Cooke, 88, of 3004 Poplar Circle, Shelby, died Tuesday,
May 7, 2013 at his residence.

A native of Cleveland County he was born May 31, 1924.  He was a member of
Davidson Memorial Baptist Church.  He was the son of the late Julius P. Cook
and Lettie Ledford Cook.  

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers,
Horace McKinley Cook, Rev. Lee Ottis Cook, Rev. John Ivey Cook, Julius
Bryson Cook, Loy Buren Cook, J.D. Cook and  Paul B. Cook and four sisters,
Minnie Cook Spencer, Ethel Cook Brittain Blackburn,  Zetta Cook Reichard and
Bertie Cook Greene.

Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cook, Vernette Cook and
Marilyn Cook and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

He was educated in North Carolina and Washington, DC.  Wilford was a family
oriented person and was extremely proud of his family heritage.  He was a
member of the Christian Educator Association of the Southeast.  After a
professional career with the Federal Government in Washington, DC, he taught
school for several years in Florida, both high school and college level
before retiring in Shelby.  

During World War II, he served with the Military Intelligence Division of
the war department, under the personal command of Major General Clayton
Bessell.

Graveside Service: 11:00 AM, Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery,
Casar.
