William “Bill” Dixon Gantt
 William “Bill” Dixon Gantt, 71, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.  A native of Cleveland County was the son of the late Marcus and Maude Dixon Gantt.  He is also preceded in death by his brother, Derrell Gantt; sisters, Lib Scruggs, Sarah Blanton and Rebecca Gantt; and two great grandchildren, Cale and Reagan Ledbetter.  Mr. Gantt retired after 35 years with the Sheriff Department Reserve.  During his time with the reserve he served with six different sheriffs and was Chief of the Sheriff’s Reserve for 4 years.  He loved to hunt, ride his 4 wheeler and jeep, and loved to shoot guns.  He was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, member of the Shelby Jaycees, and was an agent for Nationwide Insurance.  He was also instrumental in starting up the church at the Daniel Boone Campground where he was the director and leader of the Sunday School class.  He was affectionately known at the campground as “Bingo Bill.”  The campground declared Aug. 14th and 15th 2010 as Bill and Peggy Gantt weekend.  This was a well deserved salute to the longest campers of Daniel Boone campground for over 30 years.

Mr. Gantt is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Peggy Grayson Gantt; three daughters, Kathy P. Biggerstaff and husband Mike of Gurnee, Il, Cindy P. Walker and husband Todd of Kings Mountain, Sandra G. Price and husband Benny of Shelby; grandchildren, Jennifer Gryder, Seth Jordan, Mary Beth Walker, Kate Biggerstaff, Christie Biggerstaff, Matt Mode, Leah Ledbetter, Nicole Jones; great grandchildren, Brant Gryder, Risa Jordan, Trevor Jordan, Emilee Ledbetter, Bailey Mode, Emma Mode, Destiny Jones, Dustin Jones, Carter Jones;  brother, Ronald Gantt and wife Jerry of Shelby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Bethel Baptist Church in Shelby.  The Dr. Timothy S. Sims, the Dr. J. M. Ezell and the Rev. Tom Brooks will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:00pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.  At other times the family will be at the home.
