William Brevard Crosby Sr

William Brevard Crosby Sr. age 94 died Sunday August 18, 2013 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center. Born in Cleveland County on September 17, 1918, he was the son of the late William Weaver and Dorcas Paxton Crosby. William was a former member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Rutherfordton. He later attended Mulls Memorial Baptist Church. William served in the U. S. Army during WWII as a Sergeant. He was a construction foreman and worked within the rifle range of the front lines on Saipan while the battle was in progress. He enjoyed all sports but especially NY Yankee baseball.  In addition to his parents William is preceded in death by his first wife, Betty McSwain Crosby, and his second wife, Theo Edgerton Crosby; five brothers, Evans Crosby, Clyde Crosby, Clarence Crosby, J.B. Crosby, and G. C. Crosby; and four sisters, Annie C. Humphries, Lelia C. Jones ,and Beatrice C. Beattie.

Mr Crosby is survived by a son, William “Bill”  B. Crosby Jr. and wife Rehnea of Sugarland TX; a daughter, Debbie C. Ivester and husband Roger of Boiling Springs; a sister, Pat. C. Hamrick of Boiling Springs;  four grandchildren, Christa C White , Billy Crosby and wife Neysa, Butch Piercy and wife Lynn, Brad Piercy and wife Tiffany; and eight great grandchildren, Skyler White, Nyah Crosby, Scout Piercy, Preslei Piercy, Keira Crosby, Sage Piercy, Michael Gantt, and Brooks William Crosby.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 21, 2013 at 11:00am in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Bulo Price officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00am prior to  the service.

Memorials can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
