Chris was born on August 26, 1943 in Spartanburg County, SC to the late William Henry Worthy and Dorothy Patrick Worthy.  He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill.  He was a Research Zoologist having worked for the Research Triangle Institute and Burroughs Wellcome Company in the biomedical field for many years.  He also worked as a site manager for General Fasteners.  He enjoyed fishing, remodeling his home and raising animals. He especially loved spending time with his family. 

     Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Susan Worthy; five children, Jonathan Derek Worthy of Southern Pines, NC, Alissa Beebe Wood and husband, Scott of Apex, NC, Laura Catherine Beebe of Myrtle Beach, SC, Emily Murray Worthy of New Bern, NC and Abigail Christine Worthy of Kings Mountain, NC; five grandchildren, Taylor Lynn Worthy, Jackson Dean Kee, Chloe Rose Goins, William Davis Wood and Carly Rae Wood; one sister, Janis Greene and husband, Nick of Shelby and one brother, Kevin Worthy also of Shelby.

     A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Chris’s life will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 2410 College Farm Road, Shelby, NC.

     Memorial donations are suggested to Wendover Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Height Dr, Shelby, NC 28152.
