William Cyrus "Dub" Dellinger

William Cyrus "Dub" Dellinger, 97 of Shelby, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.


A native of Cleveland County, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Georgia "Dot" Wortman Dellinger and son, William Steven Dellinger; his parents, David and Sally Dellinger; brother, Alfred Dellinger and sister, Dalphine Black.

Mr. Dellinger was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Army 28th Ordinance Division (Special Forces). He was in the European Theatre, Italy, North Africa, Philippines, and Japan. He received the American Theater Campaign Medal; Eamet Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars; Philippine Liberation Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal; Victory Medal; and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal. He served his country proudly and loved the United States of America.
He is officially listed in the Founders Registry of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington, DC. He was a past member of the American Legion.


He and his wife were the owners and operators of "Dub's Upholstery" in Shelby for over thirty-five years.


In 1975, he was ordained into the gospel of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom he served faithfully and wholeheartedly. Throughout his life, he taught Sunday school, conducted Discipleship classes, and preached the gospel for over sixty-eight years. He was instrumental in building numerous churches. He was a valiant soldier in the army of the Lord.
He had "Let's Talk Bible Radio Ministry" on WOHS, WCSL, WLON, and many other radio stations for over forty years. His radio ministry was broadcast on the World Wide Web. He was the writer of the "Let's Talk Bible" column in the "Shelby Shopper" since 1975. He also wrote columns in the "What's Up Shopper", "The Rutherford Weekly" and the "Upstate Shopper" for many years. He was a dedicated, hard worker of "The Master's House", a Christian Home for men in Shelby.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Janet Dellinger Wilson of Burlington, Joy Dellinger Piercy and husband David of Shelby, Jo Dellinger Davis and husband Danny of West Springfield, Massachusetts and daughter-in-law, Ann Dellinger of Shelby; beloved grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Wes Dellinger, Lindsay Dellinger Phonephet, Bradley Davis and Dr. Brittany Davis; precious great-grandchildren, Ayden, Riddick, Lyric, Emily, Katie, Lowery and Elizabeth.

Services will be held 3:00 pm Saturday March 14, 2015 at Love Valley Baptist Church - 2032 Bethlehem Rd., Kings Mountain, officiated by Pastors Barry Philbeck and Allen Davis.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial with military honors will be in Cleveland Memorial Park Cemetery in Shelby.
