William “Franklin” Davis, age 94, of the Oak Grove Community in Kings Mountain passed away November 12, 2013 at White Oak Manor, Shelby, NC.  He was born September 28, 1919 in Cleveland Co, NC.  He was the eldest of ten children born to the late Crowder Garmon and Minnie Lovelace Davis.

Mr. Davis was a former textile worker, farmer, and carpenter.  Numerous houses in Cleveland Co., especially in the Oak Grove Community are a result of his building skills.  He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, choir member, and Sunday School teacher.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mandy Pryor Davis; a son, Roy Lee Davis; a grandson, Donald Ray Davis; three brothers, Herschel, Norman, and Glenn Davis; two sisters, Rachel Davis Costner and Eunice Davis Horn. 

SURVIVORS: 4 sons: Edward Davis and wife Sue, William “Willie” Davis and wife Diane, Carl Davis and wife Judy, and Toy Davis and wife Kathleen  all of Kings Mtn.

8 Grandchildren: Bobby Davis and wife Karen, Charlotte, NC; Dennis Davis and wife Terri, Lincolnton, NC; Perry Davis and wife Shannon and David Davis and wife Tonia, of Kings Mtn. Beth Chambers and husband Dale, Brian Davis and Robert Philbeck and wife Scottie, of Shelby, NC; Max Davis and wife Karen, Grover, NC.

17 Great Grandchildren: Dwayne Mayes and wife Elizabeth, Boone, NC; Miranda Davis, Cullowhee, NC; Lacey Davis and Graham Davis, Charlotte, NC; Jordan Davis and Blake Davis, Kings Mtn. NC; Grayson and Hannah Chambers, Brittany, Christopher, and Beth Davis, Julian, Dillon, Jordan, and Kira Philbeck, Shelby, NC; Raegan and Skylar Davis, Grover, NC.

4 Sisters: Dorothy Davis Grigg, Waco, NC; Sylvia Davis Grigg Stacey, Gastonia, NC; Mozelle Davis Justice, Kings Mtn. NC; and Fairylee Davis Coffey, Boone, NC.

Numerous nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6:30 – 8:30 P.M. Thursday evening, November 14, 2013 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, NC and other times at the home of  Ed and Sue Davis, 631 Oak Grove Road, Kings Mountain, NC.
