William "Gene" Byers, 92, of 336 Bridges Road, passed away on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at his residence.

Born in Blacksburg, SC, he was the widower of Shirley Byers and the son of the late Fred and Blanche Borders Byers. Gene was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. He retired from Southern Railroad with 20 years service. He worked with Starvin'''' Marvin Gas Company for 10 years and was owner Byers 105 Convenience Store. He was a veteran of the US Army.

Surviving Mr. Byers are his sons, Chris Byers (Janet) and Scott Byers (Deanna); two grandchildren, Liam Byers (Tiffany) and Heather Earls (Willie); and one great-grandchild, Chloe Jayde Earls.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Byers was preceded in death by his brother, Logan Byers, and his sisters, Norris Byers, Nell Bridges, and Peggy McBrayer.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 26, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm at Gordon Mortuary, 400 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC. Graveside services will be at 3:00 pm at Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery. Scott Byers, Chris Byers, Liam Byers, and Willie Earls will serve as pallbearers.

The family will be at the home of Chris and Janet Byers, 324 Bridges Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus, 212 East Floyd Baker Blvd., Gaffney, SC 29340.
