SHELBY - William Henry Markland, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Wendover Hospice.

William was born on January 24, 1934 to the late Roscoe and Pearl Hale Markland in Roan Mountain, TN. He is also predeceased by two sisters and three brothers.

William leaves to cherish his memories his wife of nearly 60 years, Shirley Markland of the home; three children, Tony Markland (Sandy), Deidra Markland and Della Markland; one grandchild, David Markland (Christal); one great-grandchild, Dakota; two sisters, Louise Baker and Helen Lyons; one brother, John Markland.

William loved to listen to, play and sing music, enjoyed his hobby of woodwoking and going camping.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wendover Hospice, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

A 2:00 p.m. celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church, 6073 Flay Road, Cherryville, 28021 with Pastor Bill Taylor officiating.
