William Lester “Sonny” Roberson, age 70, of Cherryville died September 2, 2013, at his residence. Sonny was born on June 20, 1943, in Washington Co., MD, a son of the late William Lester and Ida Catherine Horst Roberson Revels. He was an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Men’s Sunday school class. Sonny was a Veteran of the United States Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne from 1961 to 1964. He had retired as a professional mover. Sonny was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Roberson; and his sister, Debra Luchard.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hicks Roberson of the home; two sons, Geoffrey Myles Roberson (Holly Reyes) of Rome, GA, and Sonny Roberson, Jr. (Gwen) of Clayton, NC; brothers, Cline Roberson (Linda) of Inman, SC, and David Roberson of Virginia; sister, Marie Gerald of Virginia; and five grandchildren, Anna Grace and Ethan Roberson of Richmond Hill, GA, and Alex, Jake, and Brynn Roberson of Clayton, NC.
Funeral Services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church on Friday, September 6, 2013, at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Travis Mull officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carpenter’s Funeral & Cremation Services.
