Winfred Ray Walker
Winfred Ray Walker of Shelby passed away on April 3, 2014 at Peak Resources, Cherryville. He was born April, 15, 1940 in Gaston County to the late Jonas Clavan and Edith Taylor Walker. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Deo Walker, J.C. Walker and Dean Walker. 

Winfred enlisted in the United Sates Air force on November 29th, 1967. During his tenure in the Air Force, Winfred was an Avionics Maintenance Supervisor for the 394th Trans. BN. During this time he inspected and evaluated all new equipment coming into Germany. He also was responsible for all electronic equipment and electronic supply problems within southern Germany. Later, Winfred was an Aircraft Maintenance and Operations NCOIC for the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School in Fort Huachuca, AZ. In his later years, Winfred favorite hobbies were gardening and horticulture. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Kathy; daughter, Linda Cook (mike) of Shelby, son, SSG Ray Walker Jr. (Tammy) of Shelby, step sons, SSG Chris McCurry (Wendy) of Shelby and Chais McCurry (Alice) of Durham, NC., brother, Leo Walker of Kings Mtn., sisters, Jean Cain of Kings Mtn., and Wilma Fite of Ritchburg, SC., grandchildren, Nathan Cook, Austin Cook, Elijah Cook, Summer McCurry, Autumn McCurry, Orion McCurry, SPC Daniel Walker, Courtney Walker, Alex Walker, Hunter Walker, great-grandchildren, Konner Walker and Ava Walker. Winfred is also survived by his two pugs; Sister and Baby.

His family will receive friends 4:00pm – 6:00 pm Sunday at Cleveland Funeral Service, Shelby, NC. 

Winfred's funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Cleveland Funeral Service Chapel. 
Interment will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park, Shelby, NC. with military honors.
