December 2010 will mark the 20th year that the Windjammers Motorcycle Club has spearheaded the “Ride for the Children”.  The Windjammers work all year to raise money and prepare for a charity motorcycle ride that provides gifts to children who are placed in foster care and money for the special needs of children placed at Children’s Homes of Cleveland County. These needs include clothing for school and participation in extracurricular activities.  The 35 members of the club partner with other motorcycle clubs and inspire riders to participate each year.  The number of riders has varied from fewer than 100 the first year to a high of 1000+, with an average of 500 riders each year.  The Windjammers are true champions for Children’s Homes of Cleveland County.

20 years of service has amassed approximately $400,000 in contributions to Children’s Homes of Cleveland County. Almost 800 children have been clothed and 2600 children in Cleveland County have been able to experience Christmas, where they otherwise might not have.  The impact of the generosity of the Windjammers Motorcycle Club is beyond measure.  Their acts have given a glimmer of hope and happiness to countless children and families.
