Yates Mitchell “Jr.” Greene age 85 of Broad Street, died Saturday August 10, 2013 at his home. Born in Cleveland County he was the son of the late Yates Lee and Lois Wilson Greene. He was a former Deacon and active member of Double Springs Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII as a Seabee. He was manager of the 7-11 for 18 years and in the 1960’s and 1970’s served many Icee’s to Shelby Junior High School Students. He retired from Eaton’s Shipping Department. Yates was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling and was on the senior bowling league. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph C. Greene and a sister, Mary Lee “Mert” Greene Wilson.

Yates is survived by his wife of 63 years, Grace Bostic Greene; a son, Steven Greene and wife Connie of Hollis; four daughters, Margaret Spangler and husband Amos of Shelby, Kay Greene of Shelby, Brenda Bolton and husband Craig of Shelby, and Linda Brothers and husband Jeff of Wilmington.; a brother, Roy Greene and wife Ann of Shelby; eleven grandchildren, Jonathan Spangler, April Craig (Mark), Karen Vaughn, Brian Greene, Brandon Greene, Michael Walker II (Tabitha), Megan Walker, Julia Bolton, Craig Bolton Jr., Jessica Brothers, and Jeffrey Brothers, Jr.; and four great grandchildren, Gracie and Luke Vaughn, and Anna and Alex Craig.

The family will receive friends on Monday August 12, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be held on Tuesday August 13, 2013 at 2:00pm at Double Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Fryar officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with full military honors.
