6th Annual Sale Generates Over $96,000
Will Thompson and auctioneer Andy Elmore take in bids and finalize the sales.
NC Cooperative Extension supported Cleveland County Cattlemen’s Association in conducting its sixth annual Replacement Heifer Sale on Saturday, March 3 at Shelby Livestock Yard. The sale provided a  marketing outlet for twelve of the region’s premier purebred and commercial seedstock suppliers, adding  visibility and value to the 70 heifers consigned to the sale. It also provided buyers with access to quality  genetics to improve and expand their herds. All heifers sold through the sale were quality screened, fully vaccinated, palpated to determine pregnancy status, and fully guaranteed. The sale added significantly to  the local farm economy, netting consignors revenues of $96,750 and producing the following average prices: Overall (70 head) - $1,382; Cow-Calf Pairs (1) - $1,850; Bred heifers & young cows (26) - $1,628;  Open heifers (43) - $1,223; Registered heifers (9) - $1,769, and; Commercial heifers (61) - $1,332. The sale  increased the value of each consignment at least $200 above expected off-farm sale price, increasing farm profits by $14,000.   – Courtesy Greg Traywick  with photos by M. A. Andrews
