Alexander Rhett Chamberlain
Alexander Rhett Chamberlain passed peacefully at 24 years of age in the company of close family on March 31, 2013 at 5:46 am following complications from a hiking accident in Wilson Creek Gorge, NC.  Rhett was born June 26th, 1988, in Shelby, NC to Steven and Kathe Chamberlain.  He was the youngest of three brothers.  He was pursuing his Master's degree in Economics at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte following completion of his Bachelors degree in Business Administration from North Carolina State University.  He was employed by SABIC of Huntersville, NC.  Throughout his time at Shelby High School, Rhett excelled as a student athlete and mentor with the basketball program. He had an unusually dry wit, while simultaneously retaining a unique warmth in his sense of humor.  He loved to read, travel, eat well, and spend time with friends and family.  He is survived by his parents, Kathe and Steven Chamberlain, brothers and their wives, Austin and Brittany Chamberlain and Reid and Katie Chamberlain, grandmother, Elizabeth Chamberlain, and long time girlfriend, Sara Cheaney.  Also surviving are aunt and uncles, Camille and David Chamberlain and Henry Steenken, cousins, Allison and Adam Abramson, Ashley and Clint Herbison, and Syndney Steenken, as well as, numerous close friends.  He is preceded in death by grandparents, Marion and John Steenken and William Chamberlain.  Services will be held Wednesday April 3rd at 3pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W Dixon Blvd Shelby, NC 28152, reception to follow.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the Shelby High School Basketball Program, 230 East Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28152 (attn: Basketball Program) and Cleveland County Humane Society, Inc. 1609 E. Marion St. Shelby NC 28150.
